Exploring North Stoneham Park

The Fleming Estate

North Stoneham Park was at the centre of one of the largest estates in Hampshire. In the nineteenth century, John Willis Fleming's (1781-1844) property extended to some 15,000 acres, with land in present-day Eastleigh, Swaythling, Bassett, Chilworth, North Baddesley, and Romsey; and on the Isle of Wight at Binstead, Havenstreet, Arreton, and Newport. In 1872 the estate comprised more than 80 farms. The majority of the estate was sold at auctions before the Great War and in the 1950s.
