Hunt on for Binstead Stone

By Willis Fleming Historical Trust on October 24, 2009
Thee search is on to find some rare Binstead stone. The Shrine was the very last building to be made of Binstead stone from the once-extensive quarries on the Isle of Wight. This cream-coloured limestone was used throughout southern England for ecclesiastical buildings, and even for parts of the Tower of London. The quarries have been closed ever since, and so we are appealing for some second-hand Binstead stone. See Isle of Wight County Press.
